Ah, no Sag Scholar, stop RIGHT THERE. VOW YOU, SAG. SCHOLAR WILL NEVER USE “Wassup” AGAIN. YOU’RE NOT COOL ENOUGH TO DO THAT!!!!!
I was watching a iisuperwomanii video/vlog today about the difference between equity and equality, and let me tell you, I learnt something, and I walked away a better person. You see, she explained how equality is just about treating everybody the same, for example: you tell everyone to go up five flights of stairs. That sounds ‘okay’, right? Well, it is ‘okay’, but we should all strive for great, instead of just ‘okay’, and great is the word ‘equity’.
Equity means that everyone is treated the way they NEED to be treated, for example: take the above example, you tell everyone to walk up five flights of stairs, but you tell those in wheelchairs that they are allowed to use a ramp. That’s equity. Treating people the way they NEED to be treated.
Now you may start to get confused, so what’s the difference between equity and just generally being kind. I thought that too, until I came to realise equity is similar to the quote “the greater good”. It’s basically you may not like the decision, you may not enjoy carrying through the act (I mean, that sentence was basically ‘Allegiant” by Veronica Roth), but it’s the RIGHT thing to do, whil just being KIND means that there doing because a) they want to and b) it’s NICE.
